FAQs

How do I get started?
The best way to get started is by completing our contact form or emailing us at contact@innergardenpsychology.ca.
We will follow-up to schedule a free 15-minute consultation and send you an intake form to complete. These will be used to:
• Get a sense of what you are hoping to work on and answer any questions you might have
• Make sure student-delivered services are an appropriate fit
• Identify a therapist who may be well-matched to your needsYour therapist will then reach out to schedule your first session.
-
Are student therapists allowed to provide therapy?
Yes. Providing therapy under supervision is a normal and important part of graduate training in psychology and counselling.
Student therapists at Inner Garden Psychology:
• Work only under the supervision of registered psychologists
• Do not practice independently or represent themselves as registered practitioners
• Are supported to provide services that are safe, ethical, and appropriate to their level of trainingSupervisors remain ultimately responsible for the services you receive.
-
Are my sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a core part of psychological services, and your privacy is treated with the utmost care. Our therapists and their supervisors follow the same professional and legal standards of confidentiality as any registered psychologist in Ontario.
All clinicians are bound by the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), which outlines how your personal health information is protected.
There are some limits to confidentiality that are discussed in more detail during your initial appointment and in our consent form. You can also read more about the privacy policy at Inner Garden Psychology here.
You are always welcome to ask questions at any point—we want you to feel informed, safe, and comfortable with the therapy process and how your information is handled.
-
How much do sessions cost?
Because we are a training clinic, our fees are significantly reduced compared to typical psychologist rates.
Student therapist sessions are offered at $125 per 50-minute session. HST is not applicable to psychological services.
Payment is due at the end of each session, and you will be issued a receipt that you may submit for insurance or income tax purposes.
We accept Visa, MasterCard, cash, cheque, or email transfer.
-
Can I use my insurance benefits?
In many cases, yes, but it depends on your specific plan. Our services are not covered by OHIP, but many extended health insurance plans reimburse sessions when they are supervised by a Registered Psychologist or Psychological Associate (i.e., a registered member of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario)
We encourage you to check with your provider using wording such as: “Are psychological services provided by a student therapist under the supervision of a registered psychologist covered under my plan?”
Receipts will list the name of the therapist as well as the supervisor’s name, credentials, and registration number.
-
Are sessions in-person or virtual? Are in-person sessions accessible?
Sessions are primarily offered in person. Virtual sessions may be available in certain circumstances and can be discussed if needed.
Our in-person space is accessible; please let us know if you have specific accessibility needs so we can support you.
