Life Transitions & Adjustment

Even positive changes can be difficult

Starting university. Graduating. Moving. Beginning a career. Changing careers. Becoming a parent. Ending a relationship. Starting a new one. Retiring.

Sometimes we expect ourselves to feel excited or relieved about a change and are surprised when we also feel anxious, sad, unsettled or completely overwhelmed.

Transitions ask us to adapt—not only to new circumstances, but sometimes to a new version of ourselves.

Making space for uncertainty

Transitions often involve both gain and loss.

Even when we've chosen a change, we may grieve what we're leaving behind. When a change wasn't our choice, we may have to build a new path before we feel ready.

Therapy can provide space to process competing emotions, clarify your priorities, understand what matters to you, develop coping strategies, and decide what you want the next chapter of your life to look like.

You don't have to arrive knowing the answer.

Sometimes therapy is where you begin asking the right questions.

“The good life is a process, not a state of being.”
